thkd2Hey folks,

If you liked the now dearly departed Corroded Funeral, you’re bound to like the new blog I’ve started, and I hope you’ll be kind enough to check it out.  To be honest, I haven’t been entirely happy with CF for some time now, and decided it was time to get yet another fresh start.

That’s How Kids Die will feature commentaries on pop culture for the sick and twisted, ranging from music to film to everything in-between. The blog is currently in its infant stages, but I hope you will continue to it as it grows and develops.

Thank you for your support.

Anytime I travel, I always try to make some time to hit up a local record shop in search of additions to my already rather voluminous CD collection.  Purchases during my recent sojourn to Omaha, NE are as follows:

l_00dd93b97b634afba7f8e8d6e9765ac2I just got my hands on a promotional copy of the debut album from Shrinebuilder, a doom/sludge supergroup featuring Scott “Wino” Weinrich (Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, Spirit Caravan, The Hidden Hand), Al Cisneros (Om, Sleep), Dale Crover (Melvins, Altamont), Scott Kelly (Neurosis).

With a lineup like that, the band has a lot to live up to, and let me tell you that from what I’ve heard so far, this shit delivers.  Thick, Sabbathian riffage, crushing tempos and a spacey, psychedelic edge, basically everything you’d expect from these dudes is present and accounted for, and I’m only two track into this bad mofo of a record.

Unfortunately, for reasons unknown, Neurot decided to send out a promotional version of the record that doesn’t include track 5.  Perhaps to deter internet piracy?

Either way, stay tuned for a full review via Sonic Frontiers.net

In the meantime, you can check out Shrinebuilder at their official myspace page.

Assjack, Hank III’s metallic alter ego.

Posted in black metal, country, death metal, metal, music, reviews, thrash with tags , , , , , , , on 08/07/2009 by Josh Haun

61SC+qO7S4L._SS500_Hank Williams III is a man possessed by not one but two red-eyed demons.  On one side is the surly spirit of his hard-livin’ grandfather Hank Sr. and on the other is good ol’ Satan himself.  Equally capable of whipping up boozy, shit-kickin’ country and ferocious, noisy punk-metal, III’s musical palette knows no bounds.  Finally, he treats us to an official studio album from his metallic alter-ego, Assjack.

Rather than enlisting the talents of his backing band, Hank has opted to record everything himself here.  The result is a fucking awesome amalgam of gnarly metal, crusty hardcore punk and just a hint of his country roots.  Songs like “Tennessee Driver”, “Gravel Pit” and “Cocaine the White Devil” are short sharp shocks of crushing, catchy extremity that harken back to the days of crossover and metallic hardcore.  There is absolutely nothing trendy about Hank’s approach to metal, this is the real fuckin deal crafted by a true diehard.  One can hear influences ranging from COC to the Melvins to the Dead Kennedys and everything in between.

In summation, I highly recommend checking this out, in fact, you should probably be celebrating the man’s entire discography.

Curse of the iPhone.

Posted in electronics, lifestyle, metal, music, reviews with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on 08/02/2009 by Josh Haun

iphone_homeSo, I finally took the plunge and purchased an iPhone.  After 10 years with Sprint, my fiancee finally convinced me to switch to AT&T and step into the 21st century.  I have had a history of cheap, crappy phones, always being behind the times and subsequently being mocked by my friends as result for owning “ghetto phones”.  My displeasure with Sprint’s service had been steadily growing over the years, culminating in one of their representatives calling me at 6:30am when I forgot to pay my bill one month.  Ever sent Sprint joined forces with Nextel, they have steadily gone down the proverbial shitter, and I would strongly encourage anyone considering their service to avoid at all costs.

Obviously, the title of this post is huge misnomer, since owning an iPhone is far from being a curse.  I’ve had it for 2 days and am already much happier with it and AT&T’s service than I ever was succession of subpar phones offered by sprint.  As an avid Mac user, it makes sense to own an iPhone anyway, getting everything synced up between my phone and computer has been a seamless process.

With that said, I have started adding songs from my iTunes onto my phone… the playlist so far is as follows:

Misfits – Hybrid Moments

God Dethroned – On Wings of Pestilence

Watain – Devil’s Blood

Toxic Holocaust – Nuke the Cross

Boris – Farewell

Witchcraft – Wooden Cross (I Can’t Wake the Dead)

Nick Cave – Stagger Lee

Eddie Bo – Dinky Do

As far as apps go, so far I’ve added MLB (the free one), Metal Hammer, Watchmen, Facebook and Video Poker…  any suggestions? (preferably of the free variety)
